Groundhogs are sometimes called Whistle Pigs
because they whistle when danger is near.
Muddy Creek Marvin lives on a farm near Muddy
Creek. He has two cousins named Haskel Too and
Tri-city Traci. Haskel Too was named for his father
Haskel. His mother called him Haskel Too so he would
know she was talking to him and not his dad. They all
like to play under the big chestnut trees. Muddy Creek
Marvin and his cousins eat the chestnuts when they
fall off the tree.
Sometimes Muddy Creek Marvin and his cousins play
under the persimmon trees, down by the pond. They
eat the sweet persimmons when they fall off the tree.
One time Haskel Too ate too many persimmons and
Tri-city Traci laughed at him.
Muddy Creek Marvin or one of his cousins will whistle
very loud if they see a dog coming. Then all the other
groundhogs will run as fast as they can and hurry
into their burrow. The burrow is their home.
Muddy Creek Marvin and his cousins eat all summer
to store up enough fat so they can sleep all through
the winter months.  Sleeping all winter is called
hibernation. They will not come out again until spring.
